Hidden Currents with Winona State University Wind Ensemble

  • Winona State University 175 West Mark Street Winona, MN, 55987 United States (map)

Melanie Brooks and the Winona State University Wind Ensemble were part of the commissioning consortium for Hidden Currents by Katherine Bergman for solo oboe and wind ensemble.

Susan will join the band in a performance of this fantastic new work about the northernmost part of the Mississippi River.

Premiere performance March 8, 2021 by the Dordt University Wind Symphony with Susan Miranda, oboe

Hidden Currents takes inspiration from the northernmost stretch of the Mississippi River during winter. The river's character changes frequently throughout the season and it takes on new traits as the water flows through varied landscapes. Hidden Currents depicts three distinct winter river scenes, performed without pause and connected as one.

Originally composed for oboe and harp (commissioned by Susan Miranda), Hidden Currents was adapted for solo oboe and wind ensemble thanks to a consortium led by Dr. Onsby C. Rose and the Dordt University Wind Symphony.
